In automotive PLM, AI integrates as a context-aware layer that connects to existing data models and workflows. The primary surfaces are the Item Master, Bill of Materials (BOM), Change Management modules, and Document Vaults. AI agents operate by listening to webhooks for events like a new ECO creation, a CAD model check-in, or a supplier document submission. They then call APIs to retrieve structured data (parts, attributes, relationships) and unstructured content (specifications, test reports, emails) for analysis. This architecture keeps the core PLM system as the single source of truth while augmenting it with intelligence.
