Trigger: A new part number, document (e.g., technical data package), or supplier component is created or modified in the PLM Item Master.
Context/Data Pulled: The AI agent retrieves the item's attributes (description, material, intended use), linked CAD metadata, and any referenced technical documents from the PLM vault.
Model/Agent Action: A classification model, trained on ITAR/EAR regulations and historical classification data, analyzes the item's technical characteristics. It cross-references against controlled technology lists and determines the likely Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and any ITAR-controlled designations.
System Update: The agent writes the proposed ECCN, jurisdiction (e.g., USML Category), and a confidence score to a dedicated attribute on the PLM item record. For high-confidence, low-risk classifications, it may auto-approve. For ambiguous or high-risk items, it creates a task in the PLM workflow for the Empowered Official (EO) to review, attaching the AI's rationale.
Human Review Point: Mandatory for any item flagged as potentially ITAR-controlled or with a low classification confidence score. The EO reviews in the PLM interface, sees the AI's suggested classification and supporting evidence, and makes the final determination.
