AI-driven capacity planning connects to Spectro Cloud's core APIs and data sources: the Cluster Management API for real-time resource consumption, the Cost Management API for cloud spend data, and the integrated Observability stack (Prometheus metrics, cluster logs). The AI agent ingests this data to analyze trends in CPU, memory, GPU, and storage usage across your cluster pools, correlating them with business drivers like application release schedules, seasonal traffic patterns, and planned data science workloads. This creates a unified forecast model that predicts future resource demands, moving beyond simple threshold alerts.

The implementation typically involves a lightweight agent or a scheduled workflow that queries Spectro Cloud's APIs, processes the data through a forecasting model, and outputs actionable recommendations. These can be delivered as annotations in Palette's dashboard, automated Jira tickets for the platform team, or even pre-validated cluster profile changes ready for approval. For example, the system might recommend: Increase the node count in the 'prod-ml' cluster pool by 3 GPU nodes ahead of the Q3 model training sprint, based on historical growth and upcoming pipeline schedules. This shifts planning from a monthly manual review to a continuous, data-driven process.

Governance is critical. Rollout should start in an advisory mode, where AI provides recommendations but a human operator approves all changes. Integration with Spectro Cloud's Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Audit Logs ensures all suggestions and actions are traceable. The AI's forecasting logic should be regularly validated against actual outcomes, and its recommendations should be explainable—showing the data trends and business events that led to each suggestion. This builds trust and allows platform engineers to focus on exception handling and strategic architecture, rather than manual spreadsheet forecasting.

The integration connects to two primary data surfaces within Spectro Cloud Palette: the Cluster Management API for real-time and historical resource metrics (CPU, memory, GPU, storage utilization per cluster pool), and the Cost Management API for cloud provider spend data and resource tagging. A scheduled extraction job pulls this data into a time-series vector store, creating a unified dataset of cluster_pool entities enriched with application labels, business unit tags, and seasonal deployment patterns. This forms the retrieval layer for the forecasting agent, which uses historical trends to predict future resource demands.

The core AI agent is triggered on a schedule (e.g., weekly) or by events like a new business initiative ticket in Jira. It queries the vector store to analyze growth rates, spot usage spikes correlated with application releases, and compare current allocations against Spectro Cloud's cluster profile templates. The agent then generates specific recommendations—such as "Increase worker-large pool by 3 nodes ahead of Q4 campaign launch" or "Right-size dev-cluster from 8 to 6 nodes based on low weekend utilization." These are formatted as structured payloads and posted back to a Spectro Cloud webhook endpoint or written to a capacity_forecasts table for review in Palette's dashboard.

Rollout follows a phased, value-driven path to build confidence and refine models:

• Phase 1: Shadow Mode & Baseline – The AI analyzes historical cluster data and generates forecast reports, but all actions remain manual. This phase establishes a performance baseline and validates the model's predictions against actual resource usage and business growth.
• Phase 2: Assisted Recommendations – AI-generated capacity plans (e.g., "Add 3 c5.2xlarge nodes to prod-cluster-us-east-1 by Q3") are surfaced within Spectro Cloud Palette or a dedicated dashboard, requiring explicit platform team approval before any Terraform or Palette API calls are executed.
• Phase 3: Guardrail Automation – For pre-approved, low-risk scenarios (like scaling a non-production node pool within strict budget bounds), the system can execute actions automatically. All automated actions are preceded by a notification and can be halted by predefined policy checks or manual override.

Governance is maintained through continuous feedback loops. Each recommendation is tagged with a confidence score and the primary drivers (e.g., seasonal_traffic, new_app_launch). Platform engineers can provide thumbs-up/down feedback, which is used to retrain and fine-tune the forecasting models.
