AI connects to data discovery platforms like BigID, Microsoft Purview, or OneTrust at three key points: the scan engine, the classification engine, and the remediation workflow. Instead of relying solely on regex and basic pattern matching, an AI layer analyzes file contents, column semantics, and data relationships to classify unknown data stores—such as legacy SharePoint sites, unmanaged S3 buckets, or departmental file shares—with higher accuracy. This means sensitive data like PII, PHI, or intellectual property hidden in unstructured documents or poorly documented databases is identified and tagged for policy enforcement.
