Impure CO2—contaminated with water, nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur compounds—corrodes pipelines, poisons catalysts in utilization processes, and can invalidate entire geological storage projects. Manual sampling and lab analysis create a 4-8 hour latency between a purity excursion and corrective action, during which thousands of tons of off-spec product can be produced or a storage reservoir compromised. The business case for automation is direct: preventing the capital loss of a contaminated reservoir, avoiding costly pipeline shutdowns for dehydration, and ensuring CO2 meets the strict specifications (e.g., <50 ppm H2O, <1000 ppm N2) required for offtake contracts and credit verification.
